Arise Capetown Fashion Week, Gavin Rajah

by Ladybrille Magazine on August 30, 2009 No Comment

GAVIN RAJAH 29Gavin Rajah had a lot going on both on a personal and professional level this season. On a professional level, he behaved the way half of New York Fashion Week’s top designers do. He moved his show offsite to the BMW Auto Atlantic showroom in Cape Town, giving him more control over the ambience for his presentation.

On a personal level, his father passed away in June and it appears this consciously or subconsciously translated into his Spring/Summer 2010 collection.
Teaming up with America’s #1 favorite Jean company, Levi, Rajah showed a collection that was at times moody and rebellious but overall had a sleek sophistication to it. The moodiness was obvious with seemingly gothic inspired black color palettes, tulle layered black long skirts, black makeup, black leather gloves and long dramatic black lashes. Rebellion was obvious in his insistent to have the Gavin Rajah man and woman look rocker chic in embellished cropped and regular length jean jackets. Understanding not everyone might be in the moody rebellious mood, he threw in his signature timeless classics suitable for an evening cocktail party or a night at the Emmys.
