Akon ft. Keri Hilson, “Oh Africa” Song for Charity

by Ladybrille Magazine on February 2, 2010 No Comment

Pepsi teamed up with GRAMMY® nominees Keri Hilson and Akon and two-time GRAMMY award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir alongside 16 young singers from around the world to create the track, ‘Oh Africa’ to benefit underprivileged African youth.

The goal and message behind Akon’s “Oh Africa” lively video should be applauded but does he and Pepsi have to play on stereotypical images of Africa and sounds? What’s with the “wey oh wey, oh Africa” chant and paintings. By the way, why is Akon, the Chief African in residence, too cool for some “wey oh wey Africa” body paint or African inspired designs? We are just saying . . .

Purchase the song at www.konfidence.org/konf, 100% of the proceeds go to charity when purchased.
